On Practicing Gratitude / by Shelby Robinson

When I first started blogging, it was mostly an outlet to share my photos, styling, design, etc. with my friends and family. However, I feel like it's evolved into a space for me to express myself both creatively and emotionally.

And I want to share something with you that I've recently discovered to be so beneficial: practicing gratitude. Reflecting on the wonderful things in your life. (Even those things we take for granted, like our education or our family.)

It's so good to think about the things that we're grateful for, but an even greater way is to write them down. To actually write with pen and paper. To watch the words spill onto the page. There's something so therapeutic about writing with a nice pen on a fresh sheet of paper. Mmm.

Every night before you go to bed, jot down three things that you are genuinely grateful for. (Something that happened today that made you smile, someone in your life that just gets you.) Write a few sentences about it. Reflect on it. Soak in that goodness that is your life. I promise you, you'll get addicted to these sweet moments before bed.

I'll start.

Here are three things that I'm grateful for today:

1. My mom. This gal is one of the most wonderful and uplifting people I've ever met. She's the only person in the world who knows me better than I know myself.

2. My friends. Both new and old, I am so lucky to have supportive and weird and interesting people in my life. Whether I see them everyday or they're on the other side of the US, I am amazed by them constantly. Such inspiring people.

3. The ability to express myself. Honestly, if I go a few days without shooting or creating, I am one unhappy girl. I am so grateful to have the tools to express myself through my passions. So, so grateful.

I encourage you to do the same. What are you grateful for? Do share!
